Welcome

The members of the organizing committee are pleased to welcome you to the official IEEE Workshop on Applications of Signal Processing to Audio and Acoustics (WASPAA) website. The next WASPAA will be held from October 22nd to October 25th 2023 at the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York, U.S.A. The WASPAA meeting is a traditional event supported by the Audio and Acoustic Signal Processing Committee of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. The first WASPAA meeting was convened in 1986 and since 1989 it has been held every other year. This two-and-a-half day workshop is devoted to reviewing the current state of the art as well as recent advances in signal processing with emphasis on its applications to audio and acoustics. It brings together researchers and practitioners from universities and industry. Mohonk Mountain House is in the Shawangunk Mountain region of New York, an area known for its outstanding beauty. The early autumn, when foliage is near peak, is an especially attractive time for hiking and other outdoor activities. The hotel is on the shore of Mohonk Lake (elevation 1253 feet), about 90 miles north of New York City. It is a popular destination for people escaping the city to enjoy the hilly and forested surroundings.

Note: The organizing committee is preparing for an in-person conference this time, with a potentially light virtual participation option (e.g., access to the pre-recorded presentation videos and slack channels for communication with authors). However, we  would like to emphasize that the majority of workshop activities will happen at the venue in the in-person manner, and we will strongly encourage all authors to present their papers in-person, unless an unexpected Covid-19-related travel restriction emerges.

News on Registration and Hotel Reservation

(9/15) WASPAA 2023’s in-person registrations reached the venue’s capacity. Thank you very much for the kind interests. We still accept the virtual registration until Oct. 6 at https://web.cvent.com/event/aac34977-59aa-4102-9dd6-da17ba72a2a2.

(9/9) Thanks for your patience. We opened the registration system back again. Now that the Mohonk Mountain House hotel is sold out, any in-person registrants should find their own lodging and local transportation options. We unfortunately don’t have any officially recommended hotels in New Paltz, but we heard some WASPAA attendees are staying at America’s Best Value Inn New Paltz. We will create a Slack channel for those who are commuting to the workshop. Please note that we have to finalize all registrations by Oct. 6, and there are only limited new seats (about 15), so we suggest that the new registrations should be made sooner rather than later. Virtual registrations are not affected by this capacity limitation, but we will not accept any more virtual registrations after Oct. 6. The registration URL is https://web.cvent.com/event/aac34977-59aa-4102-9dd6-da17ba72a2a2

(9/2) Updates on re-opening the registration system: Since the Mohonk Mountain House (MMH) is completely sold out, we are sorting out room reservations to assign registered guests to their rooms. Plus, we are communicating closely with the hotel to maximize the final number of guests (whether they stay for the night or not), considering the lecture rooms and dining rooms’ capacity. We will be able to re-open the registration system later this week (9/9-ish) to the general public—sorry for the delay. We are expecting that we might be able to admit 20 more registrations. Please note that the new registrants need to find their own lodging options in New Paltz, and the local transportation from their hotel to MMH, as MMH is completely sold out. You are still welcome to enter the MMH facility for the workshop, and your day attendance fee to enter MMH ($175 per day) is covered by your WASPAA registration. It includes a lunch buffet, but dinner needs to be purchased separately ($135) and will be assigned to a different dining room: we are working on it but the biggest dining room we secured is not large enough to host too many guests.

(8/23) Updates about the non-author registration: The room blocks that we secured for the workshop were almost sold out by the authorsโ€™ early registrations. We are currently working with the hotel to figure out the number of additional available rooms for WASPAA. With that information, we will announce the registration link to the public soon (hopefully within this week). Apologies for keeping you waiting!
