relating to the IEEE 1993 Mohonk Workshop on Applications of Signal Processing to Acoustics and Audio
I have put together some points with respect to publicity.
If I remember any thing more, I will post it again.
I guess the difficulty in getting CFP ready before ICASSP-94 is
getting the conference committee together.
hari.
1993 IEEE WORKSHOP ON APPLICATIONS OF
SIGNAL PROCESSING TO AUDIO AND ACOUSTICS
Notes on Publicity
Harinath Garudadri (garudadri@inrs-telecom.uquebec.ca)
-
Full page ads in journals and magazines.
- I have a file with addresses and telephone numbers.
- This should be ideally done in August / September as
some journals are only quarterly and we don't want to
miss the December / January issue.
- This service if free in all IEEE journals and magazines.
For 1993 workshop, we exchanged full page ad with AES.
By putting AES ad in the workshop proceedings, we saved
$800. Try this again with AES (and others).
- Computer Music Journal says they charge $450. They never
billed us for 1993 workshop. Apparently, they didn't charge
for the 1991 workshop also.
-
Notification in Calender sections of Spectrum, etc.
- I have a file with addresses and telephone numbers.
- Judging from the enquiries, IEEE Spectrum was the most
valuable source. But Spectrum announced the meeting for only
3 months (I have to check this again) prior to the workshop.
We should check to see if we can get more exposure through
Spectrum. Perhaps a full page CFP?
-
Distribution of CFP at conferences and workshops.
- This is an inexpensive and efficient source of publicity.
For the 1993 workshop, about 200 CFPs were distributed at
the IEEE SP workshop on statistical signal & array
processing (Victoria, B.C., Canada, Oct. 92) and
the ICSLP conference (Banff, Alberta, Canada, Oct. 92).
- If we can put together a CFP or at least a Preliminary CFP
before April 1994, we can distribute it at ICASSP-94.
-
Individual mailings.
- Schuyler has a file with addresses to whom CFP was mailed.
-
News groups.
- We didn't do it for 1993. The potential groups could be
- comp.speech
- comp.dsp
- alt.sci.physics.acoustics
- comp.compression.research
- etc.
One last point. We should have the IEEE logo nice and big on the CFP.
